Working with colleagues, I co-translated the German Environment Agency report Germany in 2050 – a greenhouse gas-neutral country (Transport and Agriculture chapters).
I was also involved in the co-translation of the German Environment Agency’s key environmental indicators, this time focussing on the climate section which covers greenhouse gas emissions, global surface temperatures, hot days and greenhouse gas emissions avoided through the use of renewables.
I very much enjoyed translating the website for the M1 energy-plus masonry house – Energy Award Energy-Efficient House of the Year 2013 – because it coincided with my own self-build project. The compact, affordable home was designed to generate more energy than it consumed by combining photovoltaics, solar thermal and storage modules. Surplus energy was stored in the built-in electric car charging point as well as the home’s central energy storage units, and then used to power an electric car.
Still on the subject of the environment, my pro bono work for Greenpeace included a climbing manual with detailed information about the safe use of ropes and climbing gear!
